one time in 9th grade this 11th grader tried to dap me up and i just shook his hand like a r****d and it haunts me til this day

I always viewed it as some sort of conversational sparring. or to test emotional/social strength

It's a bunch of teasing
or like a way to keep friends grounded, making sure no one in the group acts superior or gets too far "on their high horse".

I used to not be able to tell when someone was joking or not, so I'd come home always seething or about to cry from school because of this sorta thing
