why are there so many gypsies

there are 2 to 5 million gypsies in turkey and they have their own neighborhoods in many cities and i have never in my life seen a gypsy with good living conditions (i know a lot of gypsies) my question is how are they still not dying out considering most of them are either homeless or close to homeless
