Outside of a formal setting UNLESS you know the other person have good knowledge on the topic and is coming into it with an open mind as are you.

1. Most people don't even know the format of a progressive debate
2. Most people argue to convince you, not to understand you
3. Most people have emotional rather than rational reasons for their way of thinking
4. They will automatically think they've won regardless

Just got reminded of this thread with all the arguements I've seen on here recently. Do not engage in them if you can help it, if you do and you notice warning signs of them arguing for the sake of it DNR IT

you mean arguments? don't confuse actual formal debates with smth at stake with idiots wanting to stimulate themselves, they're just fulfilling their need for conflict in their empty lives.

5. most people online and irl haven't even read a book about their ideology/worldview. It depends on position where you sit, pov like workers tend to be socialist and rich capitalist
