why do people dislike hookup culture

I don't know how you can share the most intimate parts of yourself.
Connect with another human on such a deep level.

I never understood how people could do it.
its not that special. You don't really have to connect

because sex is overrated

I vaguely remember my first time, but I had a feeling of disappointment (quite common), that same disappointment disappeared as soon as I realised that, as the couple's understanding and affection grew (note: I was in my teens, i.e. more instinctive), there was a noticeable improvement in the quality of sex

Sex as a romantic act is a sentimentalisation: not necessarily wrong, but probably exasperated by lack of sex.
