They do not. Scorpions lack lungs, a diaphragm, and vocal cords. Gas exchange occurs through book lungs: stationary internal plates that absorb oxygen and release carbon dioxide. Any movement or vibration mistaken for “coughing” is reflex motion, not respiration.
