First of all i dont advocate this diet unless u have any autoimmune issues, fruits dairy and meat are the best for puberty, but trying a carnivore diet is worth it when u are above 25.

VITAMIN C
Its an essential vitamin required for collagen synthesis, deficiency of this vitamin causes scurvy as everyone knows, this molecule has a similar structure to glucose.

THE VITAMIN C MYTH
People claim that the carnivore diet has no vitamin C, which is not true, its in beef liver, spleen, heart, raw muscle meat, etc. But yes the amounts are minimal compared to plants. The RDA recommendation of vitamin C per day is 10mg, but this is unrelated for a carnivore diet.

REASON
The innuits who consumed only meat did not ever develop scurvy, why is that? as i said the animal meats and organs do have vitamin C, but its still less than the RDA requirement.
MECHANISM OF VITAMIN C

Vitamin C competes with glucose molecule to get absorbed by the body via GLUT4 transporter, a lot of vitamin C is wasted due to this, a carnivore diet lacks carbs and hence the GLUT4 transporter is wide open and vitamin C is efficiently absorbed, the RDA value is meaningless because the value was evaluated when the participants ate both vitamin C and carbs, and therefore the value of Vitamin C per day is higher than it actually is. Also why do we need vitamin C? to synthesise collagen and hydroxylate proteins like proline and lysine into hydroxyproline and hydroxylycine, it also produces glycine, meat has dietary hydroxyproline and lysine and also collagenous cuts of meat has dietary glycine, so the dependancy on vitamin C is further reduced.

STUDIES

there are no clinical trials on meat preventing scurvy sadly, but these historical studies are very well established.

And before Orange fruits importations, europeean people would eat sauerkraut from cabbage fermentation to get their vitamin C + gut health bacterias and prevent scurvy.
Where i live scurvy cases are coming back prob due to junk food and the decreade in vitamins/minerals in industrial fruits production

I do like sauerkraut on winter with potatoes, meats sausages etc. Recomforting dish

Just supplement it if your on a carnivore diet

no yeah i agree, also, in france due to a grain based diet, there was a scurvy outbreak, napolean cured scurvy by feeding them raw horse meat

Do you have a link about it ? I never heard of that, especially since horses was used for wars and farming. I've read candied sorrel, wine, beer and sauerkraut

literally just google it
Oh yeah just the soldiers and ennemies horses i see. I thought of you was talking of a national french scurvy case. It would have harder to supply horse meat to people.

Horse meat is expensive and/or unavailable today due to sanitary scandals.

I do remember that iron is fixing vit C in the body

yeah no, i just brought that up cause thats the point of my thread, people say carnivore diet causes scurvy which isnt true, and yeah u can get vitamin c from regular red meat, yeah that too, red meat has heme iron

I think it's like the vit D/magnesium connection, when you lack of a one nutrient you have difficulties to absorb the other one. People who eat enough iron has no vitamin C deficiencies

It's alright. I think explaining what the "GLUT4 transporter" is and how it works might help me and other readers understand better if they don't already know what that is.

A lot of your argument depends on the reader to understand what that is or how it works, and in my case I don't. So I don't understand how "A carnivore diet lacks carbs" therefore equals "the GLUT4 transporter is wide open". That statement means nothing to someone who's ignorant like I am.

Carnivore diet causes heart disease, high LDL, kidney failure, cancer and an early death.

You can do it for few months. Watch Dimitry Yaranov's videos. He is a cardiologist.

Also you are a jeet. Carnivore diet is not meant for you. You ain't Mongol or Inuit.

carnivore diet lacks carbs cause obviously meat doesnt have carbs, GLUT4 transporter is wide open, because there is no competition between carbs and vitamin c for ur body to absorb, and hence on a carnivore diet, u absorb vitamin c more efficiently

so, umm, just claims? nice arguement

there are many carnivore doctors too, this doesnt prove ur point

jfl at this, we have the same digestive system as them and we are the same species

I understood that no carbs = no glucose, therefore no glucose = less competition for Vit C to be absorbed by the body.

When Googling it, I also see that "GLUT" stands for Glucose Transporter. I also noticed there are GLUT1, GLUT2, GLUT3, GLUT5, etc.

What is it about the mechanism of GLUT4 and how it works that it's significant to point out which transporter it is? How does it work and what about the other transporters? Why does the GLUT4 transporter being "wide open" help your argument, compared to all of the other ones? It means nothing to someone who doesn't really understand what GLUT4 already does. I know that the body digests glucose and carbs is just primarily glucose, but you don't need to understand the specific transporters to understand that logic. I don't know if I understand what this specific transporter is meant to do in this context.

yeah true, there are many GLUT, but, GLUT1, GLUT2, GLUT3,GLUT5, etc. in these transporters, there is no competition between vitamin C and glucose since, GLUT1 transports glucose for brain, GLUT2 is very important and balances the blood glucose level in our blood, GLUT3 supplies glucose to neurons and cell with high energy demands and they have higher affinity to glucose ofc, GLUT5 transports fructose actually, neither glucose nor absorbic acid or vitamin C.

But the GLUT4 transporter supplies glucose and vitamin c for our skeletal muscles, and for insulin regulation, glucose is ofc important for muscles, but so is vitamin C, since impaired vitamin c absorption in our muscles leads to muscle weakness, muscle atrophy, and insufficient l-carnitine production, and there fore there is a significant competition between them only in this particular transporter
