braces just move teeth, they don't move your jaw down or anything. i think what people mean is that when they pull out premolars and pull the front teeth back, your lips can end up a bit flatter. it's usually pretty minor though.
just ask your ortho if they're planning extractions before you start. get a second opinion if the answer worries you
