pretty normal yes, do remember America is a VERY car-dependent place, it would take me an hour or two to walk to school but it is a 10 minute drive. We use cars to go everywhere.

If I offer to drive someone, I do not ask for gas money. If they ask me to drive somewhere, I just ask for a dollar or two, nothing much, covers about 1/4 of a gallon at the moment. I would feel so embarrassed asking for money when I was the one that asked if they wanted a ride.

thankfully I live about a 30-45 minute walk from a convenience store, pharmacy, and grocery store so if gas prices shoot through the roof I'll be okay. they are awful right now, when I started driving two years ago they were about 2-3 dollars a gallon but they are now almost 5 dollars a gallon and have even surpassed 5 in some locations
