THE SCIENCE
I've always held the belief that negative feelings is always gonna be a natural response to negative input. Emotions are a perfectly natural evolutionary response, but did you know the physical responses to emotions only last around 90 seconds?

How Long Do Emotions Last? The 90-Second Rule (And Why You Stay Stuck) https://www.4cmentalhealth.com/blogs/exercises-and-worksheets/how-long-does-an-emotion-last

If any of your emotions last any longer, it's quite literally of your own doing

"people higher in neuroticism or rumination have longer negative emotional episodes"

Of course there are factors we sometimes can't control, such as depression and past traumas, but it's not as if we're entirely helpless in these situations either.

TLDR:
Depression is largely hormonal, with over 1/3rd of all depression cases linked to hormonal problems. I mean makes sense if you think about it, in what world are 16% of British citizenship having a bad enough life to genuinely have depression?

what we can do from here is work on our hormonal health through exercise, diet, habits, and any needed aid.

THE PHILOSOPHY
In Buddhism it's widely accepted that suffering is inevitable. We can't outrun life, we must face it. We must learn how to accept our suffering, and live a fulfilling life.

"The Buddha said, 'well maybe it will help you with the eighty-fourth problem.'
'The eighty-fourth problem?' Said the man. 'What's the eighty-fourth problem?'
Said the Buddha, 'you want to not have any problems.'" - a story from "Buddhism plain and simple" Steve Hagen page 17

I think this is the problem alot of people in the looksmaxxing community have. We want to run away from our problems. "If I just get better looking, I'll get that girl, I'll make friends" even if we reach our goals we want more. It's human nature. We don't want to be happy, we want to achieve.

We are in a never ending loop.

How many times have you seen a good-looking guy on one of the forums complaining about his life, or his looks? This is because they don't realise, suffering will always exist. Maybe for a little you'll feel good, but when you get used to your new life, you'll find new things to be upset about.

It's like a 2 year old trying to understand quantum physics, they simply can't. But if you were someone like Einstein you'd find the same work easy. Consciousness and the human experience is a spectrum.

The solution is two things. 1st we must accept our suffering. The 2nd thing we must do is stop our rumination, let things go for your own sake. One and two are directly intertwined. If we look back to our first section you'll note how I said emotions only last for around 90 seconds, if all emotions last around 90 seconds then all futher suffering is due to our own doing, our own thoughts. Although it's hard, we must move on from the things that can hurt us. We all know our triggers, our soft spots. The best solution is prevention, if you can't prevent then we must move on. Talk to a friend, play a game, do a chore, whatever. Do not let your mind linger, or suffer the consequences.

RID YOURSELF OF WANT
Have you ever thought your life was over? Have a near death experience? Mess up and get into trouble, get a bad grade on a test? I know I have. Life finds a way, and most life is far worse off than us. If you live in a 1st world country you are already living a better life than most of the world, and they live. We've already discussed how life is just suffering with no clear meaning or purpose, so why go on? Well in my eyes, life is just waiting for that next fleet of happiness. How much of our life do we spend waiting? Where there is life, there is suffering, and where there is suffering, there is happiness. You will be happy again, you will experience something new. If you do not then oh well, life will go on and one day you will die.

My point here is, nothing except food and water is a need. As long as you are alive anything is possible, as long as you make it so, but it's not needed.

I want you to think honestly, what meaning is there to life? Unless you are religious, I doubt you could place a genuine extestensial meaning on life. This is why nothing matters, and when nothing matters, you can do anything you want.

W big peen thread

i agree i need to rope

this is really nice and powerful

I enjoyed this thread though i have some questions
Wouldnt thoughts of an event causing emotion also physically affect you? How would you stop yourself from thinking about something that triggers emotion? Wouldnt this cause a loop of 90 seconds over and over?
I agree that life has no meaning and we can whatever we want
Some n***a keeps asking me whats the purpose in me doing all this looksmaxxing shit
I try to explain how i do it because i enjoy it and thats all the reason I need but i just get dnrd and he keeps trying to find purpose in something that doesnt require purpose
Life has no purpose is a good thing not bad

I mean eventually we all become numb to experiences, they lose their emotion and the impact. If it hasn't already we can ground ourselves and look at things logically. Is this something I have a reason to be feeling this way about? If it is, do I gain anything from lingering on it? If not then I should move on. If something is genuinely "major" (a heartbreak, death, etc.) Then this process will be the same only longer. Emotion isn't bad, we should feel it, but only as necessary.

And I should note at a certain point we should become un-bothered about certain things like death or atleast minimally so

i bet hormones r a big factor but not the only one bc social isolation is probably a really big factor too
and maybe also poor economic status

I did actually read it, overall a good sentiment. I like to think about it in that there’s no point in suicide because it’s just speeding something up that’s inevitable anyway. You might as well live it out, even if your days are just spent rotting, since what’s important is just being able to experience in the first place. And because it’s the only life you get

You’re confusing me too much I thought you were white
Yes my mother discovered Buddhism before I was born. Pretty sure she started reading about it when she saw a book in the library that stuck out to her.

What a Buddhist is, is hard to define though

I want you to think honestly, what meaning is there to life? Unless you are religious, I doubt you could place a genuine extestensial meaning on life. This is why nothing matters, and when nothing matters, you can do anything you want.

Jarvis make my human condition a bit more bearable to withstand

i mean my family
some are, i have read buddhist texts too but i have never been able to properly follow it
I don't think it's something that necessarily needs to be followed no? I mean Buddha himself says you shouldn't automatically follow everything he says.
