People love to say
“just be yourself” as if we’re a fixed statue with one unchanging identity.
Reality check: you’re a different person in every context, you are a son, friend, lover, leader, stranger in a bar.
The
“real you” is just the role you’ve rehearsed the most. Repeat it long enough, and you start believing it’s the only one that exists.
The most adaptable people aren’t fake, they’re fluent in multiple versions of themselves. They know when to swap scripts.
Here’s the uncomfortable part: if you had to throw away your current “script” tomorrow and replace it, which version would you choose to play?
And why aren’t you already doing it? personally, i find it easy to understand when someone is acting different than he really is, but when i admit to someone that i have not always the same personality, they tend to say that i am weird.
