Disclaimer:

I am no expert in anything, i am experimenting with things myself take this thread with a pinch of salt

1. Lack of Scientific Evidence

  • There is no credible, peer-reviewed research proving that mewing can significantly change bone structure, especially in adults.
  • After puberty, your craniofacial bones are largely fused. Significant reshaping without surgery is nearly impossible.
  • The “before-and-after” photos that the Mews and influencers show are mostly anecdotal and often involve teenagers still going through pubertal growth spurts, where natural changes are misattributed to mewing.

2. Misunderstanding the Role of the Tongue

  • The maxilla (upper jaw) is a bone; it’s not “held up” by the tongue.
  • What supports and stabilizes the maxilla are surrounding bones, facial muscles, ligaments, and connective tissues, not just tongue posture.
  • Proper tongue posture does have minor benefits for oral function and nasal breathing, but its impact on skeletal structure is minimal to negligible after adolescence.

3. What really matters

  • Obviously your facial structure is mainly genetic but there are some things which you can do to reach your full potential and one of them is having a proper posture
  • 1757011312123
  • the one you see on the left is more accurate posture according to fm alexendar it helps your maxilla lean forward and have a more open airway to breath properly
p.s. many point mentioned in this thread are based on insights from this video

most people already mew, its just subconscious so you don't notice it. john and mike mew say that its a 50/50 split between people who can mew and people who cant and says that this is what causes jaw recession. but just going outside and looking at how many people mouthbreathe and how many people mew, it is not like a 50/50 and more like 10/90. the reason people dont mew is when they r really recessed or their palette is really small bc of shit genetics or very bad womb development or things that cause them to mouth breathe like really shit inflammatory responses that clog the noses

You're saying 90% of ppl are recessed?

what? mewing doesn't directly effect the jaw. mewing directly effects the maxilla. its when u put ur tongue to the upper palate so the force is distributed to the upper palate, not the lower palate. but recession plays a crucial part bc if ur jaw is recessed and r palate is very small, then u cant mew bc then the tongue cant even fit on the palate. but most people do not have that issue. the 90/10 was flipped, most people can mew properly some people cannot and need to mouthbreathe which is the direct opposite of mewing and the worst thing possible. they r just recessed bc of genetics or nutrition.

mewing only effects the jaw because it also needs ur mouth to be closed so u can properly stick ur tongue to the palate.

mewing does not directly affect maxilla there's no scientific evidence to back it up

A vast majority have some form of malocclusion, though not necessarily recession.
well there could 100s of factor causing malocclusion you can't just pin point to one thing and say "oh he has malocclusion cuz he didn't mew"
