Introduction
Animal studies are important for understanding biology. However, they are often interpreted on this forum and beyond it ie: tiktok, discord etc. A common mistake is treating a result in mice or rats as proof that the same effect will happen in humans. Animal studies can show possible mechanisms. They cannot automatically prove effectiveness. Research has shown that results from animal studies do not always translate into human outcomes.

1- Species Differences
A result in mice does not equal a result in humans. Different species have different hormone systems, metabolism, receptors activity, growth patterns and healing responses. A pathway that produces a certain effect on animals can behave differently on humans.

2- Dose Problems
Many papers use extremely high doses. This does not mean the same effect can be achieved through normal use. A common mistake is assuming that taking a supplement or a product will create the same effect as a study where a compound was injected or given at a much higher dose.
3- Developmental Studies Are Not Adult Studies
Many animal experiments are performed on young animals. Young animals have active GPs, different hormones, and ongoing development. A change during development does not mean the same intervention will change an adult human. Developmental biology is not the same as adult modification.
4- Knockout studies
A common misconception in this forum are knockout studies, such as removing gene X made the mice have larger jaws. That doesn’t mean temporarily inhibiting Gene X in an adult human will produce the same phenotype. Knockout animals often develop differently from birth.It does not show what happens when an adult temporarily blocks that gene.
5- Injection Studies
Some studies inject substances directly into bone, cartilage or tissue. This bypasses normal physiology. A local injection cannot be compared to taking a supplement, applying a product, or naturally increasing a hormone.
6- Cell Studies
In vitro studies are often overinterpreted. A paper showing osteoblasts growing faster in a dish is not evidence that a person’s face will grow after taking a supplement. Cells in a laboratory do not replicate the complexity of the human body.
7- Mechanism Is Not Treatment
Many studies only explain mechanisms, they show how a pathway works however, they do not prove that changing this pathway will create a desired outcome. A mechanism is a starting point for research. It is not proof that a treatment works.
