Guys i seriously don’t know what to do. We don’t have money to take my cat to the vet and to get another cat. I have a chihuahua and my boxer just recently died but how can I get my chihuahua to spend more time with my cat?

My cat is not eating, getting skinnier, ate his own feces the other day, sleeps all day, and this started when my boxer died.
Is there any medication that we can buy ourselves to give him? He’s almost 2 years old.

Guys sorry I’ve been trying to ask around and I’m getting nowhere and no answers that help

Maybe try a dewormer, a strong one

specific subreddits would be potentially better than an unrelated forum like this, but this sounds like something @Randomized Shame might know more about if it needs to be addressed on here. we own a cat and now he takes complete care of her. knows a lot of things i never even considered before, so i recommend him but it's something you need to take with a grain of salt on this forum-- even more so given the type of people on here

I ChatGPT'd this for you, might be helpful:

I'm truly sorry you're facing this difficult situation. Your cat's symptoms—loss of appetite, weight loss, lethargy, and unusual behavior like eating feces—are alarming and require immediate attention. While grief from the loss of your boxer may contribute to behavioral changes, these signs could also indicate serious health issues such as infections, organ dysfunction, or gastrointestinal problems .

Given your financial constraints, here are some steps you can take:

🐾 Immediate Actions

  1. Encourage Eating and Hydration:
  2. Monitor Behavior:
    • Keep a close eye on your cat's litter box usage, activity levels, and any other changes.
    • Note any additional symptoms like vomiting or diarrhea.
  3. Create a Comforting Environment:
    • Maintain a consistent routine to provide a sense of security.
    • Spend quality time with your cat, offering gentle affection and play.Hill's Pet Nutrition

💰 Seeking Affordable Veterinary Care

There are organizations that offer low-cost or free veterinary services for pet owners in need:Bestie Paws Hospital+1Humane World for Animals+1

Additionally, you can call 211 or contact your local Humane Society to inquire about local assistance programs.Low Income Relief

🐶 Encouraging Bonding Between Your Chihuahua and Cat

Your chihuahua may help provide companionship for your grieving cat:PetsHun+4Blue Cross+4Vca+4

  • Supervised Interaction: Allow them to spend time together under supervision to ensure positive experiences.
  • Shared Activities: Engage both pets in activities like gentle play or treat time to foster bonding.
  • Respect Individual Needs: Ensure your cat has access to private spaces to retreat when needed.

⚠️ Important Considerations

  • Avoid Self-Medicating: Do not administer any medications without veterinary guidance, as this can be harmful.
  • Seek Veterinary Care Promptly: If your cat's condition worsens or doesn't improve, it's crucial to seek professional veterinary assistance as soon as possible.

Please let me know your city or ZIP code, and I can help locate nearby low-cost veterinary clinics or assistance programs. Your cat's health is paramount, and support is available to help you through this challenging time.

if you can’t afford a vet, call every local animal shelter, humane society, or rescue near you. just tell them your cat is sick and you don’t have money because a lot of them have emergency funds or vet connections that can help for free or cheap. even some vets will see him if you explain the situation.

do NOT give him any human meds or random pet meds. it’s too risky without knowing what’s wrong.

try to get him to eat baby food (chicken or turkey, no garlic or onion), tuna water, or watered-down wet cat food. you can use a syringe or spoon if he won’t eat on his own. he needs something in his system asap.

with your chihuahua, let them chill in the same room calmly. put a blanket with your chihuahua’s scent near the cat. don’t force interaction like just let them be around each other gently.

and if you're on facebook, check for pet help groups in your area cos some people can donate food, supplies, or even vet help.

act asap tho. not eating + getting skinny is really dangerous for cats. hope this helps

It depends on the cause of his illness. Is he an indoor only cat? How old is he? Does his fur look matted? Have you felt his bones/limbs to make sure it's not an injury of some kind?
He’s both of indoor and outdoor cat. He loves to go outside a lot and we let him out and he always comes back. He stopped going out when my dog died and just sleeps a lot now.
We shower him every week or every two weeks and we brush so no his fur is not matted.
Since he has gotten skinnier, we can feel his bones and his stomach feels hollow.
