WHAT IS EMS?

Electrical muscle stimulation is a treatment achieved by the usage of an ENMS (microcurrent electrical neuromuscular stimulator) which sends weak electrical currents to parts of the body causing muscle contraction by stimulating either the nerves (most of the time) or the muscle tissues directly. Although it’s widely used to rehabilitate partially or fully paralyzed parts of the body, it can also be used for cosmetic purposes due to its ability to soften wrinkles, reduce sagging, rejuvenate the skin and help with skin damage.

STUDIES (peer reviewed) :

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38992992/

Results: This study found significant improvements in skin elasticity and degree of wrinkles in the areas intervened with fNMES (p < 0.05, respectively). In addition, the intervention resulted in significant improvements in jawline angle (p < 0.01), submental volume (p < 0.05), cheek volume (p < 0.05), maximum nasolabial fold depth (p = 0.03), and total volume of the nasolabial folds (p = 0.03). The fNMES intervention also showed improvement in blood flow (p < 0.05). These improvements were also subjectively assessed by the participants in subject questionnaires at 8 weeks after the intervention (p < 0.05).

Conclusion: This study suggests that high frequency fNMES effectively improves facial skin elasticity, reduces wrinkles and sagging, promotes blood flow, and contributes to overall facial appearance rejuvenation. Although further studies are needed, high frequency fNMES appeared promising as a noninvasive anti-aging therapy.

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/23174048/

Results: Mean muscle thickness increased vs. baseline in the NMES group (18.6%) but not the control group. Between-group differences were significant at 6 and 12 weeks (P = 0.05 and P = 0.0001). NMES users reported subjective improvements in facial attributes. The control group did not. In an overall evaluation, ≥80% of NMES users reported improved firmness, tone and lift vs. <5% of the control group (P < 0.001).
Conclusions: A 12-week course of facial NMES was associated with increased thickness of the zygomatic major muscle and subjective improvements in facial attributes.
EMS is a treatment that you can get in a clinical setting or one you can apply yourself with your own device, the main difference between the two would be how well you could do it, so learning how to and staying consistent will bring you the same results as an aesthetician.

Be careful when buying and make sure the product you’re getting is an ENMS and not just a red light massager of some sort. It’s alright if the device has both options but just make sure to double check because both of these can have very similar designs.

USAGE

Before starting to massage your face with any of these you must apply a water based conductor on the area (MUST BE OIL FREE). Something like a high moisture serum (ex : water-based hyaluronic acid serum or snail mucin essence, medical ultrasound gel, pure aloe vera gel etc…) Usage on a dry face is useless, you won’t feel anything anyways.
As for the motions it’s pretty much like gua sha, do not press hard and stay firm so that the device stays in contact with your skin as you glide. use the lowest intensity settings when targeting your eye area (dark circles and such) as well as your forehead and brow. For the neck go for low to medium and you can use medium to high intensity on your cheek and cheekbones as well as your jawline and jowls.

WHILE EMS IS GREAT TO TREAT ACNE SCARS AMONG OTHER IMPERFECTIONS
DO NOT USE IT OVER ACTIVE INFLAMED ACNE

Using an ENMS scientifically helps facial sagging, dark circles, scars, and helps you sculpt your face, smooth it out, promote elasticity, fix circulation and produce collagen.

I made this thread because I once saw someone who hasn't even tried ENMS calling it cope and I looked up the research and it all pointed towards it being legit. I thought a guide could encourage people to look into it.

I always check what studies say before investing into a treatment or tool for looksmaxxing since many of them are expensive even the snake oil cope ones.
