One of the most crucial steps is to start by taking your polaroids/digitals, you can get it done professionally but most novice models just take it with an iphone, make sure it is the angles:
left+right sides
frontal closeup
left+right 3/4ths
far away full body shot
chest up/half body shot
After finishing taking the photos, proceed to pose in the same angles on video format, do a walk as well.
(you can add sitting, or more artistic poses if you’d like but these angles i listed are usually all that you need)
Wear something simple like a black tee or white tank, a clean background with natural lighting is preferred
After you finish this take all your measurements and note them down, it should be:
height (obviously)
chest/bust
waist
hips
shoulders/bidelts
shoe size
clothing size
in some cases, hair and eye color
When you’re done with this, you can start applying for agencies by researching them on verified, legit websites, models.com is probably the best one there is out there, make an account on that and search for agencies around your city
models.com
follow them on their instagram page and start dm-ing your submissions, either on their online submission page or just their instagram messages.
it only needs to be name, age, height, measurements, city you are based in, and of course, your digitals (no filter or editing)
Remember, never be afraid to reach out, agencies are always searching, take your chances
If you want to do even more research on how to ensure your success as a model you should know your category, the main ones are
fashion/runway:
-5’10+ for women, 6’0+ for men in most cases
-lean
-sharp and striking features
print:
-more relaxed standards
-any height
-diverse looks, think about catalogs or ads
fitness:
-lean and muscular, very well proportioned physically
editorial/lookbook:
-uniquely stunning looks
-if you have the height you might as well be a runway model too
If you are planning to going directly to agencies in your city to apply for modelling just be aware that you are going to be analyzed as SOON as you walk in that door, they’re gonna be sizing you up and looking at your height, face, skin, and presence before you even say a word.
I have a friend who works as a model and agent and he tells me it usually takes him around 3 seconds to figure out if he thinks he would scout somebody.
They’re going to ask for your measurements so you should already have them, for your portfolio (digitals and work), and may ask you to walk so you should practice beforehand
Before I went to any real castings my agency made me take walking and posing sessions at a local studio, it was usually just your coach guiding you in practicing your walk and you doing it repeatedly in the studio room

Lastly, never follow through with an “agency” if they ask you for money upfront or immediately guarantee you with work, this almost always means it’s a scam, trafficking operation, or they’re going to exploit you.
