Before i start this, i just want to mention that being alternative is more than a look, this is for people who are already alternative and are looking to improve their appearance along with their style, NOT for people who dislike the style. I will also be linking my Pinterest board at the end for further inspiration, I will also be more than happy to help in the comments.

First off, why are alternative styles attractive?
The main reason people find alternative styles attractive is due to them straying away from social norms, this displays a sense of confidence and uniqueness that typically isn't seen in more basic styles. While alternative styles can be seen as taboo, you will stand out more and depending on what kind of energy you are looking to give off, that could heavily work in your favour.

How do you decide what style is right for you?

Going back to what i said earlier, it really depends on the energy you want to bring with you. if you're looking to appear ethereal and gorgeous, try a goth substyle like traditional goth, romantic goth or Victorian goth. If you want to appear cute? look at Japanese alternative fashion. And if you wanna look sexy? look at cybergoth, scene, ectect. Also, some styles may suit ur face better, for example, if you have neotenous features, id look at more cutesy styles.

"Beautiful" Subcultures: Goth, Gothic Lolita

I did not mention every single subculture/style in this but I hope this gives a good overview of the different types of alternative fashion and how they change your presentation.
