What is henna?
It is a plant. People use the leaves of the plant and combine it with a few other ingredients to make a paste. It is a temporary dye primarily used by middle easterners and south Asians to create body art. You generally want to leave the henna on for at least an hour, but some people even go so far as to leave it on overnight. Go with whatever gets you the best looking stain.
It’s generally recommended that you buy your henna straight from the source, rather than cheap websites like SHEIN. Because the “henna” from there is most likely fake with preservatives and PPD
(hair dye chemical). Real henna is reddish/brown, so any other crazy colors you see online are fake. You can probably find real henna at your local Indian grocery store. There are also certain websites you can order from, like https://mihenna.com . If you encounter any allergic reaction symptoms (like blisters, burns, redness), the henna you used is probably fake.
However, despite these risks, thousands of people continue to buy fake henna from cheap brands. It’s advertised all over tiktok shop and gets thousands of sales on shein and temu. If you have used it from any of those brands in the past, don’t worry. Just don’t continue.
If your henna is natural, be sure to store it in the freezer if you are using it long term. It’s recommended that you thaw it at room temperature for about a half hour before use.
Since people use henna for body art, others have caught onto this, and it’s become a trend to use as makeup. The staining can last UP TO THREE WEEKS! Depending on where you use it, and the quality of the henna. The skin on your face is thin though, so 1-2 weeks is more realistic.
EYEBROWS
Some people use it as “brow liner”. This is a very good fraud for people who are trying to grow their brows out, since it will mask how thin your eyebrows are in the mean time. You need to be precise if you choose to do this though, because it will look retarded if the stain doesn’t match up with the hair. Using a thin, delicate, paintbrush for this would be very useful since you can use it to fill in small spaces.
For the women who try this, it might be somewhat useful to map out your eyebrows with a brow pencil before you begin. So it looks more defined.
For the men who try this, I would NOT suggest tracing this, in the same way that people don’t recommend men to trim/thin their eyebrows. Messy and free eyebrows look best on men, so I don’t think this will do much for you. Plus, most men don’t have eyebrow pencils on hand. Just don’t be retarded and be careful as to where you paint.
FACIAL CONTOUR
You can use henna as contour anywhere. Any place you would like to add some depth/shadow to. For cheekbones, you can use it to get the prominent zygos look. For nose, you can use it to make your nose look smaller (for men you can use it to contour a prominent nasal bridge.
But obviously you’d need to have some degree of brow ridge/nasal bridge projection to begin with or else it’s probably gonna look too fake.)
For big foreheadcels, you can contour the henna on your forehead to make yours look smaller.
When you squeeze the henna out on your skin, you want to grab a decently sized brush and blend it. You do not want a shit ton of henna on your face wherever you contour, you only want to blend a light amount.
OPTIONAL TUTORIAL:
at 1:15, you can see the way she applies it to her face with a brush. Replicate those motions wherever you’d like to apply contour.
FRECKLES
This is the most popular use of henna. Legendary henna freckles. A cute charming touch of tiny kisses from the sun. If you were not born with natural freckles, you can make your own. There are multiple different methods people use to get these, but I think the most important part is the placement of the freckles. You’d want them to look something like this. Some people do them once, some people do them twice. I’m definitely going to try this soon.
OPTIONAL TUTORIAL:
AEGYOSAL
Yes. Some people have used henna to create those cute under eye fat line to help make their eyes appear bigger. I saw an asian do this on tiktok and it was very clever.
(Her results came out great).
This will probably work for any ethnicity if it worked for her. You just need to have a steady hand for this.
LIPS
To define and shape your lips, you can use henna as lip liner. Again, it will look orange and weird after you take it off. But it will settle after a bit and look better.
This is very easy to do, so nobody should need a tutorial. Apply as displayed in the picture.
Bonus: henna EYELINER.
YES this is known to be unsafe and generally advised against. You do not want this crap to get in your eyes, and the skin around your eyes is sensitive. But these risks have not stopped people from trying it. Spoiler alert: yes the ones I’ve seen have survived.
Even though this is a retarded thing to do, with life comes risks. If you have a very steady hand, there’s a chance it could work. But one thing is for certain: do NOT do this with fake henna. It’s already advised against in general with real henna, so if you did it with fake henna near your eyes, that’s a double hell no.
Thanks for reading bhais, any of you planning to try henna out?
