WHAT IS FWHR?
FACIAL WIDTH TO HEIGHT (Read #2 of this thread)The FWHR is measured by dividing the cheekbone width by the middle third + philtrum length.
It should ideally have a value of 1.9-2.06.
One of the most striking feature a face can have. A compact FWHR signals strength and masculinity as bizygomatic width and low set eye brows are both large indicators of dimorphism. I mention low set eyebrows here because it is an important point in the measurement of the middle third and therefore the FWHR.
But how can you fix your unideal FWHR (if you actually are unideal)?
HOW TO INCREASE YOUR FWHR (NARROW FWHRcels GTFIH)
METHODS THAT INCREASE YOUR CHEEKBONE WIDTH1. PALATE EXPANDER
A palate expander is applied to your palate and will cause expansion to it, increasing cheekbone width and mouth width. There are three types of palatal expanders; RPE (Rapid Palatal Expander), removeable expander, MARPE (Miniscrew-Assisted Rapid Palatal Expander). The RPE and removeable expander are mostly used for children under the ages of 15, the MARPE will be the most viable options for you 15+ with a lower FWHR.
In case you are under 15 and need to increase your cheekbone width, the RPE or removeable expander will probably be what's recommended to you by your orthodontist depending on how much crowding you have (RPE for severe/moderate crowding, removeable expander for moderate/minor crowding). If you don't have any crowding, then you'll probably be given a removeable expander, but don't worry it still has results. The differences between the two are that the RPE is cemented to your upper molars, while the removeable expander is more like a retainer. The removeable expander must be worn consistently and in a clean manner, taking it off to eat. The RPE will typically have better results.
Now, for the most of you who are 15+, you'll typically want a MARPE. A MARPE will do what the aforementioned appliances will do, but with much more power as it attaches to your palate with screws and will cause maxillary growth.
2. AAS (Anabolic Steroids)
Steroids like testosterone will cause bone and muscle growth where the cheekbones are with moderate to long-term use. This makes sense as it would masculinize the face and make dimorphic factors like cheekbone width get more masculine.
METHODS THAT LOWER YOUR EYEBROWS
1. BOTOX
Botox can be injected on the forehead's frontalis muscle to relax it and lower the eyebrows. It does this by atrophying the muscle, as this muscle pulls your eyebrows up, meaning atrophying them would pull them down. I would only recommend this if it harmonizes with your facial thirds or the masculinization and effect on FWHR is enough to make up for the loss of harmony. Results will be seen in 5-7 days with 2-4 units of botox and the effect will last up to 3-6 months. You can research and do this at home (riskier) or go to a professional.
METHODS THAT SHORTEN YOUR PHILTRUM
1. UPPER LIP FILLER
Upper lip filler will cause your philtrum to become shorter as the volume of your upper lip will be higher, shortening the philtrum. Most patients require half syringe to a full syringe and it will last 6-18 months. You can research and do this at home (riskier) or go to a professional.
HOW TO DECREASE YOUR FWHR (COMPACT FWHRcels GTFIH)
METHODS THAT DECREASE YOUR CHEEKBONE WIDTH1. FAT LOSS/DEBLOATING
Your zygo-temple area where the FWHR is measured has a layer of fat called the hypodermis that's about 1.0mm-7.00mm+ depending on your body fat level or facial bloating. If you simply just lose weight then your FWHR will go down and if you're already lean, maybe try debloating or use a UC if you have bad fat distribution. You can look up other guides on this as I'm not an expert on either.
2. SKIN THINNING WITH CORTICOSTEROIDS (MINIMAL IMPROVEMENT, JUST A THEORY)
You can apply a corticosteroid like hydrocortisone to thin the skin around the zygote-temple area to maybe slim your cheekbones by 1.0mm-2.0mm per side as the dermis is already very thin and will not much thinner, but it slightly affects the hypodermis too. This is risky because it may cause bruising and skin damage if you aren't careful. Try at your own expense as it will give you barely an improvement.
METHODS THAT ELEVATE YOUR EYEBROWS
1. BOTOX
Just as botox can be used to lower your eyebrows, it can be used to elevate them by injecting 4-8 units into the orbicularis oculi, corrugator, and procerus muscles. It does this by atrophying the muscles there, as these muscles pull your eyebrows down, meaning atrophying them would lift them up. Like the other method for botox, I would only recommend this if it harmonizes well with your facial thirds and won't seriously impact your facial dimorphism as higher eyebrows will make you less dimorphic as a man. Results appear in 10-14 days and last 3-6 months. You can research and do this at home (riskier) or go to a professional.
2. PDO THREADS
PDO (polydioxanone) threads are barbs injected under the skin to increase collagen and lift droopy eyebrows. It smooths and tightens skin to last about 6-12 months. You can research and do this at home (riskier) or go to a professional.
