The more a couple is the same in each facet of their life, the less they run the risk of cheating, affairs, unloyal thoughts, dissatisfaction. (Not always the case by the way, but it can happen) There is literally studies on this.

Depends on what you mean by dating up though, if you mean dating up as in dating a responsible adult male who has the ability and resources to take care of himself and his family then I agree with you. But that would be quite unfair for the competent man if you have an incompetent woman. Incompetent partners should not have kids at all because they would do an absolute disservice to their kids.

If there is any hypergamy at all, it is more like the women date up in status and income and men date up in looks for LTR. Short term relationships are different however.
