Best way to put it is this.
Most people with a shit social construction of relationships think like this, but you have to understand most that get into a relationship aren't perfect even if they dated before. You compromise and learn about does and don'ts and don't build trust immediately. It comes in time.

That's why some friendships that turn into a romantic relationship sometimes fail, because there is so much more to learn about the other person.

Relationships end for a reason. especially during teen years most relationships are horrible, but they're neccasary for growth in every way. Simply put if they didn't have those experiences they wouldn't be the person you care about. The only thing that matters is being the best they ever had, which is fully in your control.
