I asked you because I was trying to gauge whether you were following a certain maddhab. In Hanafi school, cigarettes are considered makruh, but the Moroccans here deem it haram (as they are followers of the Maliki school, if they aren't salafists). Why don't you personally like that sheikh, any specific reason why you consider him to be controversial? I was under the impression he was well-liked by the Islamic community.

He’s just said quite a few confusing things, for example

1) Telling a revert that Arabs are racially superior

2) Said women should wear backpacks and jackets under their abayasً??

3) He told this woman whose husband cheated on her that it was her fault and if she leaves him she’d be used goods

I’m not saying he’s totally horrible, he’s just said some things that made me lose trust in him. Also he’s not a genuine scholar by Islamic standards, an aalim tho

Yeah, i’m majority Hanafi but I have individual opinions on some matters. Like cigarettes, but this is my personal belief and the belief of most scholars but it’s also permissible for you to follow other rulings ofc

I know, he's lost all credibility in my eyes (as a scholar to learn from that is). I remember a woman who cheated on her husband said she was planning on confessing to her husband, and he told her not to because "otherwise he's gonna divorce you." Like no f-cking shit, that's the entire point? Who wants to stay with a cheater anyway?

I am Hanafi-leaning as well, I don't eat shrimp, for instance. But I'm kinda weird, I have my own beliefs so it doesn't make sense to call myself a proper Sunni, so I don't use any labels on me.

Yeah, it’s best not to call yourself Sunni or Shia anyways, as that divides the Muslims. (You can still call urself this though, but since you prefer not to use labels anyway)

I'm with you. There's too much division. Now we even have so-called Muslim nations joining hands with non-Muslim nations to bomb other Muslim nations (i.e. Saudi Arabia bombing Yemen, for example). It's a shitshow.

Very true. The Saudi government is just becoming more and more power hungry and that is what’s causing most of their actions. Can’t say to much though because the royal family will execute me

It is my friend’s birthday today but they live in the United States. I said I would celebrate together with them, and asked them what kind of cake they were gonna have today and they told me they were baking some dish for themselves. I was like, oh shoot, idek what that is, but I’ll see if I can find it. I found a store that sells it, however, two different people informed me beforehand there’s alcohol in it. After I placed my order, I asked the worker if there’s alcohol in it. They tell me, “Yes, but it’s just a little, not enough to make you drunk.” I was like “Oh, okay..” Anyway, I just ate it and it tasted super good. But sadly, I’ve sinned in the process, since I’ve consumed alcohol. I’m getting some more tomorrow.
