Which Race of Women Gets the Most Success on Dating Apps? Full Breakdown w/ Sources (OkCupid, 25M+ Interactions)
Overview
This thread compiles data from large scale studies on racial preferences in online dating, focused on women's success rates (reply rates received, attractiveness ratings, and match data). Primary sources include OkCupid's OkTrends dataset (25M+ interactions, 2009 to 2014), Quartz/Are You Interested (2.4M+ interactions), and several peer reviewed academic studies.
Key metric: Average reply rate = % of men who reply when a woman messages them. Women also receive far more messages than men overall, so the dynamics here are different from the men's thread.

Rankings (Most to Least Successful)
| Rank | Group | Tier | Avg Reply Rate Sent | Bar | Key Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| #1 | Middle Eastern / Arab Women | ■ TOP | ~54.3% | ██████████ | Highest reply rate of any female group when sending messages. Men of all races respond to Middle Eastern women at unusually high rates across the board. White men in particular show a notably strong response to Middle Eastern profiles, one of the biggest cross racial spikes in the data. |
| #2 | Pacific Islander Women | ■ TOP | ~49.4% | █████████ | Very high reply rates across racial groups. Small sample size in the OkCupid dataset so results should be interpreted with some caution. Men of nearly every racial group respond positively. |
| #3 | Other / Mixed Race Women | ■ TOP | ~49.2% | █████████ | Mixed race women consistently perform near the top of the data. Ambiguous racial presentation appears to work in their favor across most male groups. |
| #4 | Native American Women | ■ MID-HIGH | ~46.6% | ████████ | Strong reply rates. Similar caveat as Pacific Islanders regarding sample size, but the numbers are consistently above average across racial male groups in the dataset. |
| #5 | Hispanic / Latina Women | ■ MID-HIGH | ~46.8% | ████████ | Among the most desired groups in the Are You Interested (AYI) dataset. Men of all races except Asian men show above average interest. Latina women also rank highly in attractiveness ratings. The 2014 OkCupid data confirms they fared consistently well across the board. |
| #6 | South Asian / Indian Women | ■ MID-HIGH | ~46.2% | ████████ | Solid mid to high reply rate. Indian women are notably selective, showing a strong preference for white men in messaging behavior. Men of most groups still respond well to them in return. |
| #7 | White Women | ■ MID | ~47.4% | ████████ | Counterintuitive result. White women rank mid tier in reply rates despite being the most preferred group in stated preferences. The reason is selectivity: white women tend to message men they already expect to respond, which inflates their rate somewhat, but they also reply to non-white men at only ~23%, one of the lowest cross racial reply rates in the dataset. Men prefer white women heavily but white women are highly selective back. |
| #8 | East Asian Women | ■ MID | ~43.4% | ███████ | High demand from men of all races except Asian men, who show a lower interest rate in Asian women likely due to a self esteem dynamic documented in several studies. The AYI data shows all male groups except Asian men mark Asian women as interested at above average rates. Despite being heavily fetishized, their overall reply rate is slightly below the median. |
| #9 | Black Women | ■ LOW | ~36.3% | ██████ | The most disadvantaged group in the dataset by a wide margin. At 34.3% received reply rate, the gap between Black women and the next lowest group is larger than the entire variance between all other groups combined. 82% of non-Black men on OkCupid show some measurable bias against Black women. Even Black men respond to Black women at their lowest rate compared to other groups. Black women do however reply to others the most generously of any female group. |
Additional Findings
- Women receive three times more messages than men on average, so reply rates sent by women tell a different story than reply rates received.
- Asian women are the most desired group by men across all races in the Are You Interested dataset, except Asian men who respond to them less.
- White women are the most stated preference across all male groups, yet rank mid tier in actual reply rate data due to their high selectivity.
- Black women reply the most generously of any female group when sending messages, yet receive the fewest replies back.
- Asian, Hispanic, and white women reply to non-white men at rates of only ~21.9%, ~22.9%, and ~23% respectively, among the lowest cross racial reply rates.
- Middle Eastern women get high reply rates across virtually every male group, including a notable spike from white men.
- In the 2014 OkCupid data update, biases intensified slightly compared to 2009 even as users answered survey questions in a less biased way, showing a gap between stated beliefs and actual behavior.
- Latina women and Asian women rated the best in attractiveness scores. Black women and Black men rated the worst.
- In speed dating studies at Columbia University, women of all races showed stronger in-group preference than men, but 47% of matches were still interracial overall.
Important Caveats
- Data is US centric, results may differ significantly in Europe, MENA, Asia, etc.
- Reply rate sent does not equal desirability. A woman with a very high outgoing reply rate may simply be less selective, not more attractive.
- Pacific Islander and Middle Eastern sample sizes are small in the OkCupid data, which can cause some skew.
- Rankings reflect aggregate statistical patterns, not individual experience.
- OkCupid data is from 2009 to 2014. More recent large scale public datasets are harder to access.
- Fetishization dynamics mean that high reply rates for some groups (Asian women especially) do not always translate to quality interactions or relationship outcomes.
