If you could go back into your mothers womb would you be a happier person?
Mother Parasite is a phycological manga revolving around the main character Ryota. He was abandoned shortly after birth and then went into the foster system, jumping from family to family. He has a very cold and manipulative demeanor which is driven by his main goal, to find the "perfect mother". He notes the flaws in his different mothers and typically goes for more anxious and insecure mothers so that he can feed off them, hence the title, Mother Parasite. During his time we see Ryota attempt to murder multiple of his mothers, this is shown to be due to the fact he actually hates mothers and their affect on their offspring. In a few moments in the series we actually see that Ryota is deeply lonely and strives to be truly loved.
The first trauma humans experience is our own birth. When we're intrauterine we have all of our needs met. We have safety, food, waste and nutrients all taken care of. The birth is the first separation between maternal bond and the child is the first instance of trauma, from the perfect environment, into a flawed world. After birth we're safe, fed and taken care of, we still have the maternal connection even though there was separation.
For Ryota he got the trauma of birth, but also a lack of care afterwards. This leads to him believing that the lack of connection between the host mother allows him to only feel rejection. Not just from the maternal body, but also the rejection experienced from going through the foster system.
Now I wont go too deep into the story as I don't want to spoil much but hopefully this piqued some of your interests.
