Are you using LX mint? Can't stand using Ubuntu, extremely frustrating when I tried ( ~ a year ago )
Yes. I've been considering of switching but I don't know to which one. Linux Mint was my first distro.

I'm using CachyOS which is Arch based but with their own kernel that provides certain CPU optimizations

Currently running it with Hyprland

It's much easier to use VS ubuntu-based distros tbh mainly because of the AUR. No need to surf around the web to add some PPA when you want to install anything that isn't ultra mainstream. Hyprland is also really clean, doesn't pre-install with a bunch of extra tools like mint does ( good or bad depending on how experienced you are )

im a senior and its finals week i dont have time to organize 💔
Okay, explain to me what your system is... do you just create a new folder named 'New folder with items #' and just dump a few items into it before making a new one?

What is the oysters file about?

Is Arch better than Mint ?
For new users coming in, God no, I’m just masochistic enough to use it. Would definitely recommend Mint for people coming in but EndeavourOS is also very nice in my opinion, pretty much Arch without the headaches of installing it.

I prefer Arch based distros due to it being more ‘bleeding edge’ so I get the latest stuff but sacrificing potential stability, vice versa applies for Mint so I recommend that due to its easy install and stability.

Interesting tbh, i bookmark your comment
Thanks for that. Don’t be shy to hit me up if you want me to help you get the ropes with Linux shenanigans, I’ve been dual-booting Linux since 2021 and I won’t pretend I know my way round fully by any means, but I know a thing or two of course so feel free to ask me for any help.

My main area of expertise in Linux is on the arch side though as I’ve been using arch based distros for longer, bear that in mind.

without a doubt, yes.
Arch always seems complicated to manage tbh, i don't see the benefits for me, Mint looks fine to me atm. Will try an another one for the curiosity

There are so many Arch distros I've never heard of until I joined this site lol. A lot of them seem good though.

If you're masochistic, you might enjoy QubesOS. I'm always talking about it because it's one of my favorite operating systems. It's more security focused though and gaming on it is not too great (and if you're wanting the most recent updates it's also not super great for that). I have it on my old gaming laptop though and I vibe with it hard.

I'll try an Arch distro though. People are always suggesting me arch distros so there's plenty of options to pick from.

Just use EndeavourOS if you want to try Arch, dead easy to install, I love that Distro personally for my use case.

Most of them are the shits honestly.

Use Gentoo and compile Firefox for a day theory

Meh I recommend stinking with Mint for now, if you want to try an Arch based one use EndeavourOS. Dead easy to install like I said.

It's not complicated to manage

You just update your system every once in a while ( sudo pacman -Syu every morning for me )

The only thing "hard" about Arch is installing it but there are guided arch based distros like CachyOS to help you with that so it will pretty much install just as easy as mint or ubuntu

Post installation, Arch is easier than ubuntu ( mint ) because you have access to the AUR. Anything you need, just use a helper and get stuff installed. No need to waste your time looking for some deb file or adding some PPA and copy pasting commands.

The ease of use is the benefit, which is why I use it. I also wanted a rolling release distro for wayland support.

You might as well have just recommended LFS to them man
