should i go to a gym or work out at home?

either works fine.
at home: free, no need to go to a crowded gym. you can also go outside/parks for free.
gym: gains will be somewhat faster, since you are dealing with heavier loads.
but you can also buy weights and use them at home, so you save money.
in general id recommend the easier option which is at home with purchased weights
 
im trying to gain a little bit more muscle, im very skinny (like people think im anorexic skinny) and i want to build muscle around my legs and hips to hide hip dips and make my waist look smaller
At home. Bodyweight squats. Just use YouTube to make sure you're doing them properly.

Eat more food as well. Three tbs of pure Spanish olive oil in the morning after breakfast as well as after dinner should do the trick.

Yeah and at home you won't have to deal with all the creepy guys sneaking around corners and hiding behind machines while trying to take photos of your butty tutt tutt. You know what I mean?

i highly recommend the gym, make sure to work each muscle group . also, diet is EXTREMELY important when it comes to building muscle. make sure to at the very least eat at a caloric maintenance, but if you’re skinny you should be aiming for a surplus obviously. eat lots of protein, too. :)

if u think u can go to the gym consistently and people don't bother u then go the gym



if not
then do calisthenics but its slower and harder
