The basics of Ultrasonic Cavitation (UC)
UC is a non-surgical fat reduction procedure that uses low-frequency ultrasound waves to break down fat cells, which the body then naturally eliminates. Essentially, it is a device used to dissolve fat wherever the waves are targeting. Studies report destruction of 14.7–28.5% of fat cells, with some observing a 23% decrease in adipocyte lipid vacuoles. These waves create microscopic bubbles around fat cells, which then burst, breaking the fat into glycerol and free fatty acids. Then, the glycerol is used by the rest of the body when needed, and the acids are later removed from the body as waste through the lymphatic and urinary system. This treatment is used for target fat loss and is most commonly used on large scale fat areas; abs, thigh, hips, and arms. Due to this the waves are not suited for smaller areas and SHOULD NOT BE USED ON THE FACE. BUUUUUUUT, if you are going to use it on your face I will be going over how.

The Application of UC
Before you start the application, there are two steps that are required.
  1. Gel- The gel is very important because you know you don't want to burn your face. The two main types of gel used by most are either the recommended ultrasound gel, or if that is not obtainable use aloe vera gel. Now the gel does not just go on your face. Apply said gel onto the machine head and wrap the machine head in foil. Also put the head in water and when removed holes should appear through the foil. If it does not, the gel might be altering with the head, so try a different gel.

  1. Taping- Now this is probably the most important step. We need to tape off the areas around the target area, your face. We are going to tape off the zygos, mandible, and other bones surrounding the cheeks. This is to ensure that we are only hitting the target area, but also so we don't hit the bones as this can lead to life-altering consequences.
Now that we are ready for the applications, we must know the settings and the action for it. The strength is an important part for use. On the first few sessions start at the lowest strength and gradually work your way up.
(But the main discussion happens when we start talking about how high we should go, with many saying higher=better, but they seem to disregard the side effects, and others say there is no need for higher than 5. My take on this is the latter, as the face does not carry much fat and is way more delicate than the parts the machine was intended for. While yes, raising the strength will enhance the results; the risks are way higher than low strength, and it does not provide as big of a difference.)
Now that we got that out of the way, let's go back to the application. What you are going to do is slowly massage the head of the UC on the cheeks while being wary of the bones. As the machine is on your face you will hear a ringing, but do not fret. This is due to the sound waves that the machine uses to dissolve fat. But if you hear the ringing gradually get louder, this means you are getting closer to the bones, so try and keep the ringing to a minimum. Most sessions include 15-20 minutes on each cheek. You will probably have to reapply gel around every 5 minutes. If you feel it getting hot, this is your sign. And always be generous with the amount of gel you put on, rather more than less. Be constantly moving the head so it does not damage the skin by staying in one place.

The Risks
Now here is the main part that most are looking for, yes, the consequences are horrible if not done correctly. And since the face is a delicate part and is not the intended use of UC, it gets much worse. The face contains thin skin, sensitive nerves, and small fat pockets. High-energy ultrasound can damage collagen and blood vessels. Also, facial fat is less abundant, so high-strength treatment may not be effective and could cause irritation or burns. Hitting a nerve or bone can lead to permanent blindness and deafness. This is why taping the bones and being wary of the ringing is crucial. But even with all these risks it is not as bad as it sounds. Using low strength and being cautious can prevent these sides.

How Does it Compare
Overall UC is a good device to use for target fat loss (PS, this will only help if you are already relatively lean) but how does it compare to other methods? Compared to injectables, there is a difference in how we go about them. Injectables, such as aqualyx or lemon, are more direct and require less sessions, but carry more risk and will have more immediate response in bloating. While UC requires more constant use and is safer. Honestly, I believe injectables are the better choice for fat loss, but UC is a safer alternative.

TLDR
Ultrasonic Cavitation (UC) is a machine that sends sound waves to dissolve fat. NOT INTENDED FOR USE ON FACE.
PS: make sure to drink a lot of water if using.
