A topic that I see being frequently misunderstood in this community is that, marriage in the older times were "better",
I suppose that this misconception comes from the "trad wife" idealization,that a young and virgin woman will be willing to preserve herself to a "truly" good man (in this case you),
The problem in this idea is that,things never were really like This.First of all you need to understand that most women at that time did not stick to only one man,when it came to relationships at teen years,only a minority of Christians (or restrict parents) really did.
And not only that but you need to consider that the teen years are the years that women have the most libido in her entire life,as men also have the most libido in their lifetime.wich just continues to make the "trad wife", sound more like a fantasy than reality.
And now the most important factor: economy

When you look back at the past is really hard to not notice how much women didn't have control of it,women weren't even able to vote but,wich just shows how little power they had, so what happens is this:most women didn't love their husband's looks,neither his personality,but what they really loved was theirs condition of living,when the system itself doesn't support women,they will use what they can to live the dream.Women marrying ugly man in the past,is for most part them settling down unwillingly.
And that's why I'm not really surprised with the concept of "hypergamy",when you take in consideration that now women don't depend financially in men near as before,most women go to college,most women have independence socially and economically,your condition of living doesn't really matter anymore .And the biggest facilitator of this is nonetheless tinder,if you are a man in the ranges of 1-5 ,just forget about it,now women can choose from different cities,countries, it doesn't matter. When they have the power to choose,they will.
(Sorry if I sounded like a feminist, wasn't really my intention)But that's about it.
