I also wanted to do a hair guide but its quit complicated cuz almost everyone here has different hair types, fave shapes, faces in general,Different hailos and flaws and different skullsYOU NEED TO FIX YOUR HAIR
Hair is THE ultimate fraud and objectively EASIEST looksmax anyone can do. Hair absolutely changes the way someone is perceived immediately, and can shape your face to your advantage. A perfect example is this roundcel.
Short, slicked back hair makes this guy look gross
He's a little more lean in this and younger, but look at how better longer hair shapes his face. This is one of MANY examples of how hair changes everything.
1.Hair Products
Hair mask: it is used to repair damaged hair or fix certain hair problems. Hair masks can be applied to wet or dry hair and are generally left on for a long period of time before you wash them out.
- Shampoo: it is used to clean your scalp, not your hair. If applied directly to hair it will strip it of its natural oils, making it dry and ugly. Shampoo is the first product you apply when washing your hair. It is washed out of your hair after being applied.
- Conditioner: it is used to restore strength and moisture to your hair, not your scalp. If applied to your scalp it will clog the follicles, leading to dandruff. Conditioner is the second product you apply when washing your hair, right after shampoo. It is washed out of your hair after being applied.
- Leave-in conditioner: it is used to seal moisture inside your hair strand, making sure it does not escape the hair, ensuring it remains healthy and beautiful. Unlike a Conditioner, a Leave-in Conditioner is NOT washed out of your hair after being applied.
- Hair oil: it is used to seal moisture into particularly vulnerable areas, such as your hair ends and, to a lesser extent, your hair middles. It helps fight frizziness and protect your hair. It is NOT washed out of your hair after being applied.
- Blow dry cream: it is used to protect your wet hair before you blow dry it; when wet, your hair is at its most vulnerable and it will always require protection. It is not washed out of your hair after being applied.
- Heat protectant: it is used to protect your dry hair before you use a flat iron on it. Heat is very dangerous for your hair and it can lead to damage if you do not properly protect your hair with a heat protectant. It is not washed out of your hair after being applied.
Washing
Washing your hair correctly is simple but most people do it wrong. It should be done this way:
Phase I - Shampooing
Gently wet your hair with lukewarm water for 1 minute allowing it to open up. Put shampoo on your scalp and gently rub it with your fingertips all over the scalp; this is a good time to have a scalp massage as well since you're basically already doing it. Keep rubbing gently until the shampoo forms a lather, once you're done (shouldn't take you more than 5 minutes even with a scalp massage), wash it all off.
Phase II - Conditioning
Gently squeeze your hair to remove excess water. Do NOT pull, scratch or twist. Just gently squeeze your hair inbetween your palms. Once you got most of the water out, apply conditioner to your hair and NOT to your scalp. Leave it on for 2 to 10 minutes, then wash it off with cold water.
Drying
Drying your hair is the hardest part and the one where most people do the most damage. When wet, your hair is in its most vulnerable state and should be treated like glass: that means you must be super gentle with it.
There are two main ways you can dry your hair: Blow Drying and Air Drying.
Blow Drying will require good technique but allows you to change your hair's pattern. Blow Drying will require a blow drying cream and a quality blow drier as well. It is impossible to properly explain how to blow dry in written form, so you will need to find tutorials elsewhere; YouTube should have plenty of options.
Air Drying will require a microfiber towel for optimal results. Once you are out of the shower, gently squeeze water out of your hair by hand, then gently pat your hair with your microfiber towel until it's about 60 to 80% dry. Apply your leave-in conditioner, then you can wrap your hair in another microfiber towel (one that's not wet) and leave it on to dry for a few hours. Alternatively, you can leave your hair uncovered right after you apply your leave-in conditioner, but I wouldn't recommend it as you'll need hair that's in PERFECT health to avoid it losing moisture.
Some people wrongfully assume Air Drying is damaging because your hair remains wet for too long, or that Blow Drying applies unnecessary heat to your hair.
Both are wrong. Either way of drying is perfectly fine.
Just make sure to use a blow-dry cream and good technique when blow drying to ensure no heat damage. If instead you decide to air dry, just keep in mind the shape your hair dries in is the way your hair will stay - you obviously won't get to decide your hair's shape if you air dry it and don't use heat on it right after.
Styling
Styling is somewhat important but youre going to get jostled and move around during the day so the "styling" done is just going to be undone unless you use holding spray or gel or clay, all of which work fine but they wont fundamentally change your hair.
Changing your Hair Type
There's only a few ways to permanently change your hair type, the one most are familiar with is a perm, in which they put some chemicals on your head and you get curly. Personally I've been getting perms for almost 3 years and its consistently ascended me. I have a rounder face with some diamond angularity, so I keep the perm shorter and more focused on the top, but having curly hair in general is more favorable to needle straight hair like i naturally have.
Finding your Hairstyle
This is the most important part and also the hardest, but the good thing about hair is it can change quickly so you can experiment.
HAIR QUALITY
if you have shorter to medium length hair (5-10 inches on top) then stop using shampoo. I get a lot of questions or even doubtful hate coming my way when I mention this around here. So shut up and hear me out: I am a firm believer that our hair is not meant to be subjected to harsh shampoos and conditioners and should only be “washed” with water daily. What I like to do is wear a cap to the gym and sweat my ass off. Then I go to shower and brush my hair as I rinse it with lukewarm water. Do not use hot water as it is damaging to the hair. Yes, it will feel greasy or weighed down for a week or so, but just push through it. Soon you will have glossy, beautiful hair. If you want to go above and beyond, buy a water softener that you can attach to your shower-head or directly to your water heater to prevent mineral build up in hair. Personally I don’t use this because regular water is sufficient for own needs. Supplement bovine collagen powder (2.5 g a day). Dissolve it in warm water and drink it before bed. This will help hair growth and quality along with other benefits such as increased strength and better sleep.
Now that you have a full head of suitable length of glossy, perfect hair, let's talk about styles...
CHOOSING A STYLE
A very important factor and one of the things you want to plan for from the get go. The best styles are the ones that fit your personal face shape the best. There are 6 of face shapes: Oval, round, square, heart, rectangle (aka oblong), and diamond.
1. Oval
Face is longer than it is wide, with the jaw being a bit more narrow than the forehead. The jaw is slightly narrower than the forehead and tapers down towards the chin. Lines are fairly soft.
2. Round
Baby face basically. Like oval but with vertical and horizontal ratios being almost identical
3. Square
Like a round face but with hard edges. Prominent jawline and compact mid face
4. Heart
Prominent forehead tapering down into narrow or pointed chin
5. Rectangle
like oval but with sharper lines. leads to typical horseface appearance
6. Diamond
like oval but cheekbones are widest part. narrow forehead and chin area with angular bone structure. usually somewhat large gonial angle and high hyoid bone
so now for the important part: what cut should you get for each?
OVAL:
- very versatile. one of the most “flexible” face shapes
- feel free to experiment
- tend to look better with short styles
- caution: stay away from too much height/volume on top
ROUND:
- keep hair short on sides and back, long on top
- volume/height products are your best friend
- grow facial hair
SQUARE
- hair should aim to soften harsh lines of upper face
- messy, medium length hair is the best bet
- best type of shape to pull off a buzzcut
- use facial hair to soften harsh jaw angle
HEART
- stay the fuck away from short hair
- use long or medium length up top swept over to mask large forehead
- use facial hair to fill out jaw
RECTANGLE
- stay away from short sides or cuts that give volume up top
- don’t grow a beard
- can pull off slicked back hair
DIAMOND
- go with a fringe
- long on top coverings some of the forehead
- can grow facial hair or not, up to you
HAIR RECOVERY (BALDING)
If you are balding (receding hairline), buy a derma roller (mentioned in my skin guide) along with minoxidil as your first line of defense. https://moreplatesmoredates.com has some great articles on this method, in addition to other great hair care / anitbalding regimens in general for that matter. If minoxidil and derma rollers aren’t working and your hair is thinning all over, etc., go with finasteride. Take 1-5 mg daily and you will see a difference over a 3-6 month span. This can be ordered from any online pharmacy for quite cheap. Of course the next line of defense is dutasteride, which is stronger. As for both of these, less than 2% of men have any testosterone related problems (ex ED, loss of strength, trouble ejaculating, etc). If you’re worried consult your doctor. If none of this works, start saving for a hair graft / transplant (very expensive) which you can also talk to your doc about. I should also mention that it’s especially important to monitor changes in your hair weekly, because if it gets worse and you don’t notice, you’ll be playing catch up with the norwood reaper and no one wants that.
TLDR
Keep your hair longer in areas where the skull is smaller and keep your hair shorter in areas where the skull is larger.
When talking about these sizes it’s relative to the face, here are some examples:
- If you have wide temples relative to your face, have a fade.
- If you have a short/narrow forehead, keep volume at your fringe.
- If the top of your skull is tall, keep that bit short.
- If the back of your skull is flat, keep volume there.
