What Is Skinny Fat?

Skinny fat dudes have a normal body mass index (BMI). But, as has often been observed, BMI doesn’t tell the whole story.
BMI doesn’t differentiate between muscle mass and body fat. So if a guy has low muscle mass combined with average-to-slightly-above-average amounts of fat, their BMI will be reported as normal. Skinny fat guys are walking around thinking they’re healthy. Nonetheless, as we’ll see here in a bit, a skinny fat person might have all the health issues typical of the obese.
The underlying issue of skinny fat dudes is that they lack substantial muscle mass AND have average amounts of fat (which, in men, gathers primarily around the waist).

The Biggest Problem With Being Skinny Fat:

The biggest problem with being skinny fat is that it can deceive you that you’re perfectly healthy when you’re actually not.
A skinny fat person has a low muscle-to-fat ratio, and muscle helps your metabolic health by doing things like clearing glucose from the blood.
So if you’re skinny fat, you may not look fat, but you likely have all the same health issues an obese person would have, like type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol. This is why obesity researchers often call skinny fat “normal weight obesity”; a skinny fat person has a normal weight and BMI, but when you look at other markers of obesity like insulin and blood pressure, they’re essentially obese.
What can make being skinny fat even more of a health hazard is that the fat that a skinny fat guy accumulates is often visceral fat. Visceral fat is a fat that lies deep in the body and grows primarily around our internal organs like the liver, colon, and pancreas. Visceral fat makes and releases proteins that inflame your body and constrict blood vessels, contributing to maladies like diabetes and cardiovascular disease. So visceral fat is no bueno.
So your health is the biggest issue with being skinny fat. But it’s also just not a great look. You’ve got chicken legs and scrawny arms with a belly to boot. When you wear a t-shirt, your arms don’t fill out the sleeves, but you’ve also got a pooch showing through your midsection.

Nutrition:

Nutrition plays an important role in body recomposition.

  1. Chicken Breast: Chicken breast is a lean source of protein, low in fat, and rich in essential amino acids necessary for muscle repair and growth.
  2. Turkey: Like chicken, turkey is a lean protein source that provides ample amounts of protein without excess fat. It's a great option for building and maintaining muscle mass.
  3. Fish (Salmon, Tuna, Cod): Fish is not only high in protein but also rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which support overall health and muscle recovery.
  4. Lean Beef: Lean cuts of beef, such as sirloin or tenderloin, are packed with protein and essential nutrients like iron and zinc, which are important for muscle function.
  5. Eggs: Eggs are a complete protein source, meaning they contain all the essential amino acids needed for muscle growth. They also provide important vitamins and minerals, including vitamin D and choline.
  6. Greek Yogurt: Greek yogurt is higher in protein compared to regular yogurt and provides probiotics that support digestive health. It's a convenient and versatile option for boosting protein intake.
  7. Cottage Cheese: Cottage cheese is high in casein protein, which is a slow-digesting protein that can help prevent muscle breakdown and promote muscle recovery, especially when consumed before bedtime.
  8. Quinoa: Quinoa is a plant-based protein source that contains all nine essential amino acids. It's also high in fiber and complex carbohydrates, making it a nutritious option for muscle building.
  9. Tofu and Tempeh: Tofu and tempeh are plant-based sources of protein derived from soybeans. They are versatile ingredients that can be used in a variety of dishes and provide complete protein necessary for muscle growth.
  10. Beans and Legumes: Beans and legumes, such as lentils, chickpeas, and black beans, are rich in protein, fiber, and other essential nutrients. They're a budget-friendly and plant-based option for supporting muscle development.

Cardio:
Running:
Whether outdoors or on a treadmill, running engages multiple muscle groups and can burn a significant number of calories per hour, depending on speed and intensity.

Cycling: Riding a bike, whether stationary or outdoors, is a great low-impact exercise that can help burn calories and improve cardiovascular health.

Swimming: Swimming is a full-body workout that provides resistance while being gentle on the joints, making it an excellent calorie-burning exercise.

Jumping Rope: Jumping rope is a simple yet effective exercise that can be done anywhere and burns calories quickly while improving coordination and agility.

High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT): HIIT workouts involve short bursts of intense exercise followed by brief rest periods, making them highly effective for calorie burning and improving fitness levels.

Rowing: Rowing machines provide a full-body workout that engages the arms, legs, and core muscles while burning calories and improving cardiovascular endurance.

Kickboxing: Kickboxing workouts combine cardio and strength training, incorporating punches, kicks, and other martial arts moves to burn calories and build muscle.

Circuit Training: Circuit training involves performing a series of exercises targeting different muscle groups with minimal rest in between, making it an efficient calorie-burning workout.

Elliptical Trainer: Using an elliptical machine provides a low-impact cardiovascular workout that engages both the upper and lower body muscles, making it an effective calorie burner.

Stair Climbing: Climbing stairs, whether on a stair climber machine or actual stairs, is a challenging cardiovascular exercise that targets the lower body muscles while burning calories.

Conclusion:

In conclusion, addressing the challenges of being skinny fat requires a multifaceted approach that combines regular exercise, mindful nutrition, and healthy lifestyle habits. By incorporating strength training exercises to build muscle mass, engaging in cardiovascular activities to burn excess body fat, and adopting a balanced diet rich in whole foods, individuals can effectively improve their body composition and overall health. Consistency, patience, and a positive mindset are essential throughout the journey, as progress takes time and dedication. With a commitment to self-improvement and a focus on sustainable lifestyle changes, anyone can overcome the obstacles of being skinny fat and achieve their fitness goals for a healthier, happier life.

I have some things to add on here. If your a beginner, you should do bro split to get used to the pain, then move to ppl once you get used to it. You should also be trying to get more carbs in to help recover in the gym. Lastly, if you’re skinny fat, just keep bulking and the results will come in! I have to say that this is a great thread and you should keep it up! :)

You should stay lean based on your body weight. You should ONLY lift weights in the gym for muscle growth and do any sport or martial arts for cutting.

So weight training is just Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday?

In my own experience as someone who was severely skinny fat until I went to insanely high calories my maintaining calories even if I added some amount would never cause weight gain anywhere else but my belly for some reason It was extremely frustrating. At the end I started eating like 4.5k+ calories a day for 2 months went from 57 kgs to 73 kgs and when I started to put like extreme amount of calories for some reason all the weight distributed equally and all I had to do was debloat afterwards by using digestive supplements and probiotics and cut down the calories that's how I finally fixed my skinny fat physique. (I've been already regularly weightlifting for 4+ years but even after I put on muscle, I was still skinny fat because I wasn't eating enough while bloating my guts + the 4.5 Calories were carb heavy low fat, no sugar, only artificial sweeteners.)

you should update the workout routine to the new gym patch notes for max efficiency
