In 7th grade I used to be really ugly. We were a group of people gathered around a round table bench. Some ppl were sitting and some standing behind. I was standing behind one of the kindest guys in that school. He was always nice to me and I swear he would never hurt a fly.
He opened his phone, went on snapchat and took a picture of himself and me behind his shoulder. Then he looked at the picture and exclaimed something like “ew no” and deleted the pic. He the immediately started apologising to me and I could tell that he felt embarrassed and was truly sorry.
But how brutal is it when someone who is genuinely a kind person accidentally show you their genuine disgust towards you. Same thing as when kids used to walk by me and ask their parents “whats that guy doing?” (im female). Their raw, innocent but insulting opinion about you. You know theyre not exaggerating anything, trying to make fun, or trying to get social points by mocking you like regular insults. Theyre not just trying to be mean.
People would yell insults to me from across the street or hallway, mock my 2 friends for associating with me, call me names, etc. But all that naturally is so much more exaggerated by factors outside of their genuine opinion. Yet in 7th grade I always felt way worse by this kind of friend group impressing bullying than kind peoples raw opinion slipping out on accident, and I dont know why because the latter is definitely more brutal.
