Dopamine
Dopamine relases when you feel pleasure, reward, and motivation.
The purpose of Dopamine is to regulate emotion responses and motivate you.
Ex. Eating a food you enjoy, having sexual pleasure
Serotonin
Serotonin releases when your mood, sleep or appetite needs to be regulated.
The purpose of Serotonin is regulation of basic health indicators.
Ex. Reducing negative thoughts when depressed
Acetylcholine
Acetylcholine release when you contract your muscles, try to learn something, and remember something.
The purpose of Acetylcholine is memory formation, muscle contraction, and learning
Ex. Making notes in your head to remember something for later on
Norepinephrine
Norepinephrine releases when focusing attention, being stressed, and getting aroused.
The purpose of Norepinephrine is to be attentive, aroused, and anxious.
Ex. Your heart starts racing before sexual engagement.
GABA (Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid)
GABA is released when neuronal activity needs to be reduced.
The purpose of GABA is to regulate relaxation, sleep, and anxiety.
Ex. Becoming tired after a long day
Glutamate
Glutamate is released when neuro activity needs to increase.
The purpose of Glutamate is regulating learning, synaptic plasticity, and memory.
Ex. Learning a new subject in school
Endorphins
Endorphins are released when pain or stress needs to be reduced.
The purpose of Endorphins are to act as a natural painkiller.
Ex. When you laughing, feeling euphoriac
Histamine
Histamine is released when you need to wake up and feel hunger.
The purpose of Histamine is to keep arousal, regulate sleep-wake cycles, and maintain appetite.
Ex. Simply waking up in the morning
Oxytocin
Oxytocin is released when bonding, feeling trustful, and feeling attached.
The purpose of Oxytocin is regulating social behaviour, emotional connection, and nurturing behaviours.
Ex. Having sexual intercourse, cuddling
