So I had to redo my jaw implants due to asymmetry. I also had problems with periodical bloating of the face, which is caused by normal PEEK being inert (the body does not accept it as part of the body and never will).
I was forced to choose the new PEEK, which is treated with Hydroxyapatite. It gives the implant more bone-like charesteristics and there is less or almost no scar tissue formed around the implant.
Here you can read an article written by a scientists about it:

It looks slightly more natural than normal PEEK, probably due to better integration with surrounding tissue and bone.
I also do not have the periodical bloating problem anymore (but I have to wait longer to know for sure, as this problem usually bwgins to occur one or two years after surgery).
There have been many scientific articles written about it. I have also witnessed the bloating in real life with other people. It does not happen to everyone, but it can happen. It's an annoying problem that forced me to change my implants.
I dont' say normal PEEK is bad. PEEK is already way better than silicone. Just like silicone was not the superior material anymore when PEEK came around, normal PEEK is not the superior material anymore compared to bioactive PEEK. You don't want your body to 'fight' against a foreign material, you want your body to accept it.

The Science of Bio-Integration: Why Facial Implant Materials Matter
Advanced PEEK composites with hydroxyapatite enable facial implants to integrate with bone reducing erosion and shifting unlike silicone.
