Whenever I have evening wear made, black-tie or white-tie, I always get black glass buttons, not fabric covered ones.

Anyone relate?

Sometimes midnight blue glass to compliment midnight blue fabric also.

I’ll dig out my blue ones for you. They can look a bit like mother of pearl, or they can be like thick counter looking things.

Those are black baguette cut.
 
The blue ones I have are really nice though.
