Need some brutal honesty on my current skinmaxxing/hairmaxxing stack because I might be doing some dumb shit.

Current Stack:

  • Finasteride 1mg (daily, morning) - hairline retention
  • Magnesium Glycinate 440mg (split morning/night) - sleep/de-stress
  • Melatonin 5mg (night) - sleep (might cut this down to 1mg cuz I heard 5mg is too much)
  • Tretinoin 0.05% (topical) - glow/clearing occasional pimples
  • Hydroquinone 4% (topical) - fading dark spots/hyperpigmentation

The Situation: I don't have severe cystic acne. I just get 1 or 2 pimples or breakouts here and there. Nothing serious. However, I managed to get my hands on some Accutane (Isotretinoin) 10mg capsules.

My initial thought was fuck it, ima take 10mg once a week as a microdose just to nuke the occasional pimples and keep my skin completely clear.

But I just found out(reddit/chatgpt) that taking Accutane (even low dose) thins the skin barrier, meaning I apparently CANNOT use my Tretinoin or Hydroquinone while on it, or I'll chemically burn my face off.

Questions for you guys:
  1. Is taking 10mg Accutane once a week for clear skin cope? Will it even do anything, or am I just wrecking my liver/lipids for no reason?
  2. Should I just bin the Accutane and stick to the Tret/HQ skin cycling routine for my glow and dark spots?
  3. Has anyone here successfully microdosed Accutane without ruining their skin barrier?

Give it to me straight. Is the Accutane a waste of time for me?

Stay away from accutane if possible, there are some crazy side effects. topical tret is way better (or so I've heard). Accutane is really only supposed to be used as a last resort since it really fucks you up even in small doses, you're dry EVERYWHERE

Also 5mg of melatonin is a LOT. Unless you have like severe chronic insomnia you shouldn't be taking that much, 3mg max should do well but try to build healthy habits non-medicinally as a dependence on melatonin can just make your sleep worse down the line

just start with 25 topical tret
isotret is for really severe situations
and where's the at least 50 spf sunscreen?
what's the use of melatonin? you'd get addicted to it
just fix your sleep
and how old are you? finasteride is used only after 18
and IF you're seeing active reccesion

Doesn't really warrant 5mg of melatonin, I will sleep at 5 in the morning usually but when I need to go to bed at 10 for wageslaving I'll usually take 3mg at 9pm

Accutane will dry you out BAD, talking about nosebleeds, chapped lips, it's just not fun. Idk about microdosing, sude effects may be reduced but it will probably still make you quite uncomfortable. And as you said you don't break out much so I would say not worth it

You never need to take more than 0.5mg of melatonin. Above .5mg, it doesn't become much more effective, but your body builds up more of a resistance to it, making it harder to fall asleep long-term.

Do you mean "and"?
This shit genuinely pissed me off
Why the fuck do uninformed people think they know what they’re talking about
At 200mg melatonin is just a super strong antioxidant the sleep effects literally stagnate after 10mg

"The sleep effects stagnate after 10mg" exactly. He's using it for sleep, not for antioxidant reasons. He directly stated that. People can experience sleep effects at as little as 0.5mg of melatonin, anything above like 7mg for people who have trouble sleeping is financially and physically not optimal, since melatonin overdose can result in headaches, digestive upset, extreme sleepiness, etc.

Also, learning when people use sarcasm online is a useful thing. any peabrain knows that melatonin isn't directly lethal and isn't gonna kill you unless you take the whole bottle and you're like one year old. 200mg of melatonin is severely overcompensating especially for sleep reasons. Who said anything about using it as an antioxidant?

It’s his skinmaxxing stack not sleepmaxxing stack lmao
A strong antioxidant like high dose melatonin neutralizes reactive oxygen, etc. in skin cells which would benefit his skinmaxxing stack which is the main point in general

Pure bulk 20k mg melatonin is $20

It was implicated when talking about skin in the first place

bratha I know people who were on accutane
“I’m not racist I have black friends”
and I clarified that I didn't know too much about how it changes with microdosing but if he's barely breaking out it's lowkey not worth it
Microdose accutane has such little side effects it’s worth it purely for the guarantee that you’ll never break out again + photoaging benefits outside of just acne
