Stop coping with the bullshit buccal corridor shit that orthotropics/mewing feeds you.

Buccal corridors are the amount of black spaces/the dark triangles that show up on the outside of your smile, and it is pure cope; the only thing it is good for is assessing palatal width. It makes virtually no difference on smile esthetics, and is very controversial as is. This is because "the prosthodontic literature describes a smile lacking buccal corridors as unrealistic-looking and denture-like" while "orthodontists refer to buccal corridors as "negative" spaces to be eliminated by transverse maxillary expansion". And orthodontists and orthotropists are the only ones who give 2 shits about buccal corridors, as "repeated surveys of lay persons have failed to establish any adverse esthetic perception of negative spaces".

Smile arc is immensely more important to smile esthetics than buccal corridor cope. "The smile arc is the relationship between a hypothetical curve drawn along the edges of the maxillary anterior teeth and the inner contour of the lower lip in the posed smile".

You want to aim for a smile arc that looks like this:

It is important to note that "Smile arcs were found to be flatter in orthodontically treated patients than in an untreated group with normal occlusions, resulting in a "denture mouth" appearance". Furthermore, "the smile arc can be unintentionally flattened during orthodontic treatment by any or all of the following three techniques." The article cited below goes into more detail on this.

So there you have it, stop coping about your smile being narrow being the cause of a bad smile. Smile arc is much more important and buccal corridors are irrelevant for smile esthetics, and only relevant for assessing palatal width.

ngl this seems to hyper fixate on the anatomy without really pointing out one of the most obvious pieces to me. A smile is "wide" and "thick". The illusion of being "thick" feels like a fuller smile. This is, to me, why thin-lipped or very pointy smiles look so terrible. A thick upper lip, or specific facial hair, creates this. Just look at those "old classic" chads smiling, they have thick lips and a very strong smile.

The article focuses on some soft tissue components of the smile, just not like thickness. Related to thick upper lip, upper lip curvature is incredibly important as well, upward or straight lips are desired when smiling, downward curved lips are a smile failo!

Bad smile arc?

I know orthodontics can flatten smile arc per my post, but they can also be used to correct the smile arc, for example, placing brackets higher on the teeth.

From time to time I need to re-introduce this jumpscare

I think you just need your lower lips to drop a little bit and you will be good. Like it kinda looks like you are biting the lower lip almost (not sure if this is actually the case). Your teeth look structurally good though and you have nice eyes and lips for smile!

Your theory that nice clothing helping you look better is cope is a much better theory!
neither help imo.
if youre ugly and have a good smile and good fashion taste ur still chopped
if ur good looking and have a bad smile and a bad fashion taste ur still good looking

Here is what .org discord told me when I told them about some of the dates I had been on: do you think any girls would have gone out with you if you didn't have a nice smile, wide jaw, 6'4", and white?

Uggos and middos can have halos.

Have a more positive outlook brother!
