hello. im a 16F (pushing 17) who just got her second premolar extraction today. both upper teeth. why, you may ask, would I do such a detrimental procedure which might/will recess my maxilla? I don't know.

for context, my 2nd molars were starting to come in for both my upper and lower teeth. this procedure was what my orthodontist had recommended, and i blindly agreed because i hadn't known what a palate expander was (I still don't know if that procedure is suitable for my problems, by the way). I already had braces for ~1.5 years prior because of an overbite and overall unaligned, not straight teeth.

upon finishing the procedure this evening, i decided to research the effects this would have on my physical appearance. i deeply regret it. there are countless accounts of people regretting the procedure, saying it ruined their smile or recess their jaw. even more people advising against the surgery and calling it "outdated" and irreversible.

currently, i don't have the worst maxilla ever. it's not too recessed, but there is some recession (forgive me for such a vague description, I'm new to everything). neutral, if you will. but all of these comments and videos and threads online are just making me rethink everything. im supposed to get two other premolars extracted, my lower ones, some time soon. is it too late to not do so? am i going to make a huger mistake than i already have?

i don't know if people on here are empathetic or brutally honest. i don't know if i can cope with any answer i will get, honestly. and im sorry if that's too corny or sad or whatever for this site. but i just can't really bear the thought of looking worse than before from a procedure that's supposed to make me look better.

answers and help are highly appreciated, please!

don't extract anymore

don't extract anymore
Past the lower 2 that are planned I’d agree but it’ll probably cause issues with bite to have removed 2 upper teeth and not the 2 lower
