its def the mandible in itself. the recession relative to frankfort looks around -8 mm so a herbst appliance probably wont work unless youre still actively growing. A Forsus Appliance might work but if youre willing to go the invasive route you can probably get a genio or bsso covered by insurance. youd obviously have to talk to ur ortho and get a diagnosis but you look to have a class 2 malocclusion. im not a doctor though so take everything i say with a grain of salt

a deep bite and an overbite isnt necessarily the same thing however there is a distinct correlation. A deep bite is just a severe overbite, often referring to a recession of >5mm. Its the same thing as a class 2 malocclusion however this is just in medical terms.
