DIMORPHISM > MISC

Why dimorphism has more importance than its standalone weighting suggests

THE CORE IDEA

Dimorphism has a relatively low standalone weighting, sitting around 20% alongside angularity.

Looking at that number alone makes dimorphism appear less important than other categories.

But dimorphism has significant cross-category influence.

It feeds directly into both harmony and angularity, which means its practical influence extends far beyond its standalone percentage.

DIMORPHISM -> HARMONY

Harmony has a much higher weighting than dimorphism itself.

A major reason dimorphism is important is that it contributes heavily to how the face is perceived as a cohesive whole.

Dimorphism affects the masculine/feminine expression of the facial structure, which in turn affects how the different features interact with one another.

Because harmony carries a high weighting, dimorphism's influence through harmony is much larger than its standalone weighting suggests.

DIMORPHISM -> ANGULARITY

The same principle applies to angularity.

Angular features don't exist independently from sexual dimorphism. The way a face reads as angular, robust, sharp or structurally defined is heavily influenced by its dimorphic characteristics.

In other words, a large part of what makes male facial structure appear strongly angular is the underlying masculine structural development.

This creates another major cross-category relationship.

And because angularity itself is a significant category, this further increases the practical importance of dimorphism.

THE EFFECT

Dimorphism therefore isn't isolated to its own 20% category.

Its influence branches into multiple heavily relevant aspects of facial aesthetics:

DIMORPHISM

↙ ↘

HARMONY ANGULARITY

↘ ↙

OVERALL RATING

This is why

"Dimorphism is only 20%, therefore it isn't very important."

doesn't accurately represent its total influence.

The 20% is its standalone category weighting, not the full amount of influence it has throughout the entire assessment.

DIMORPHISM VS MISC

Miscellaneous traits generally have much less cross-category influence.

Dimorphism affects:

➜ Its own category

➜ Harmony
➜ Angularity

Misc doesn't have the same level of influence across major categories.

So even if misc and dimorphism were given similar standalone consideration, dimorphism would still have greater practical importance because of its cross-category effects.

TL;DR

Dimorphism ≈ 20% standalone

But dimorphism strongly influences

HARMONY

+
ANGULARITY

Both are major components of overall facial aesthetics.

So its effective influence is considerably greater than its raw percentage suggests.

you also have good harmony and angularity

thanks for being a test subject! you proved it!
good side harmony, slightly above average front but yea

i guess my pillars are more unusual then most other people’s, always thought it made me look weird but ill take it

Nice content. Only thing I would point out tho is that you framed it as if angularity is the one dependt of dimo and its really a two sided street. They both feed each other. Simplistically and vaguely putting it f.e as dimo=bones angularity=definition, theres no point on having bones if you dont have definition to show them and theres no point on having definition if you got no bones to show

do you know what water means?
the whole post is jus water, it doesnt even give any important info and the dimo shit was discussed 40 times already

Angularity 9 times out of 10 comes from bones though; that's why I classified angularity as highly dependant on Dimorphism.

Angularity without dimorphism will end with you looking like a detroid crackhead
